Ganesh Chaturthi becomes the next major festival following Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami. It starts on 22 August this year.

Every Hindu celebrates this auspicious day by offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, the god of new beginnings, and removal of obstacles. Ganesha idols are quite prevalent in houses throughout India.

Many Hindus like placing an image or idol of Ganesha at the entry or placing on the dashboard on a vehicle for eliminating obstacles and bringing luck.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 2020

In several places like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka, Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day event, held with great excitement.

The traditions vary from one part of the world to another. But this year the event would be a low-key affair since there are limitations on Covid-19 in place.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi, or the 4th day of the fortnight between both the new moon and Bhadrapada’s full moon, as according to the Amanta and Purnimanta Hindu calendar.

Amanta and Purnimanta are the two important Hindu calendar units that are used in India.
